Android Gaming Still has Room to Grow
Obviously I am a huge fan of Android as a platform. I stand by it from a productivity standpoint as the most powerful and flexible option on the market, at least for my personal needs. The one major area that always seems so much better on iOS is the mobile gaming category.
The screen shot above is of Clash of the Clans, a game which in my opinion far surpasses anything I have ever played on Android. This game is a multi player online game, so the only real downfall is that there is no offline play. You build your own stronghold but also take part in a “Clan” which has it’s own in game live chat room as well as a Global chat for everyone(I personally find no use for this outside of recruiting new members to your clan). The real benefit of being part of an active and high ranked clan is that members can donate troops to each other to be used in battle or to defend in the even of an attack. For example even if you are only able to make level two archers, you may regularly receive level 5 archers from clan donations.
Another thing I really like about this game is that the “Freemium” model is designed in a way that makes it playable even after the initial amount of game currency is used up, it’s always really frustrating to hit an immovable pay wall in a “free” game after dedicating hours of time advancing and upgrading. I ran into this situation with both Deer Hunter and Contract Killer, which ultimately led to me no longer playing either game. In Clash of the Clans you gain admittedly small increments of gems sporadically through removing trees and shrubs from your game map, and somewhat larger quantities through reaching various achievements.
Suffice it to say that I have found nothing of this caliber on my Android device, so for the time being I will be gaming on iOS.
